Darkness essentially strengthens stresses and complicates recovery after them. According to psychologists, the modern person's depression can be provoked by lack of so-called "hormones of happiness" - endorphins and encephalins. These hormones sometimes are named "sunny" - on light their work becomes more active. Owing to this, the mood improves and sensitivity to pain decreases, protection against depression also grows.
Thus, depression and anxiety can creep over a person not only on a background of social stresses, but also with approach of late autumn and winter when we practically lose the sun.
Especially it concerns increasing army of office workers which in the winter see the white light only through tinted window glasses.
Psychiatrists have not thought up a way to struggle with this seasonal frustration as yet. It is possible to take advantage of psychologists' advice, which suggest to struggle with shortage of the sun by means of so-called light therapy: Shine your apartment as brighter as possible, and even better persuade your boss to build in office accommodations full spectrum lamps which modern models are capable to provide about 96 % of all summer sunlight spectrum.
