A picture of famous Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo "Tres Personajes", stolen in 1987 from the Sotheby's warehouse was found in a heap of garbage in Manhattan. The auction price of a find makes about one million dollars.
The picture was found out in 2003 by writer Elizabeth Gibson. First she has hung up the canvas in a room which she rented together with her friend. However, when the woman has learned, that her find belongs to a brush of the famous artist, she has hidden the picture in her toilet, having covered with the false wall made of plywood.
In 2005 the woman watched a telecast about the lost pictures in which "Three characters" have been mentioned and has decided to call Sotheby's. For that Gibson has found and has returned "Three characters" the picture's owner has paid to her 15 thousand dollars.
Rufino Tamayo is considered one of the greatest Mexican artists. The pictures of the artist, who has died in 1991, have tremendous success on leading world auctions. In 1993 Tamayo's work "America" has been sold for record 2.59 million dollars.
